I am going to tell you about Florida:

Florida is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the north by Alabama and Georgia, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the south by the Straits of Florida and Cuba. Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida. The Miami metropolitan area is the eighth largest metropolitan area in the United States. Tallahassee is the state capital.

Much of the state is at or near sea level. The climate varies from subtropical in the north to tropical in the south. The American alligator, American crocodile, Florida panther and manatee can be found in the Everglades National Park.

Florida is distinctive for its large Cuban expatriate community and high population growth, as well as for its increasing environmental issues. The state’s economy relies mainly on tourism, agriculture, and transportation.

Florida culture is a reflection of influences and multiple inheritance. Native American, European American, Hispanic and Latino, and African American heritages can be found in the architecture and cuisine. It is internationally known for golf, tennis, auto racing and water sports.

Getting started: Florida ferries to Cuba

Instructions: Read the text to do the activity suggested.

For the first time in five decades, the U.S. is allowing ferry service between Florida and Cuba. At least four companies are going to get ferry service licenses to Cuba. The ferry companies are going to offer trips that would be less expensive than charter flights, while allowing more luggage free.

The passenger ferries are going to be able to carry only authorized U.S. travelers to Cuba, including people in 12 categories who no longer need a license in advance to visit. Those categories include family visits as well as religious and educational activities, among others.

Americans are not going to be allowed to travel to Cuba for general tourism under the terms of the U.S. embargo, which remains in place. Only Congress can lift the embargo.
